Giant recording project aims to preserve local dialects across all of China
Jiangsu province first pioneered the idea of a vocal database as long as two years ago. Now, recognising the need for preserving historical records in the face of massively changing times, the State Language Commission has taken up the project on a national level, aiming to record the local dialects represented by some 10,000 towns across all of China. A number of people from each town shall be chosen to speak about local customs, music, culture and history; with the huge undertaking expected to be complete within 10 years. [more]
