Frequently asked questions about Nanjing
南京FAQ

What are my options for buying a mobile phone in Nanjing?

As with any Chinese city there are mobile phone shops scattered all over the city, as well as in the big electrical department stores such as Suning. However, those truly in the know head to the mobile phone market on Danfeng Jie, just south of the Jiangsu TV building. This sweatshop of booths and desks compete wildly with each other for your attention, offering new and second hand phones as well as trade-ins on your old one, or any broken phones you may have.

Incidentally, this is also the place to buy a fake iPhone, available in many different models, sizes and colours. They are in many ways identical to the original Apple iPhone, at least in the physical appearance of the larger model, while the counterfeiters have also tried to mimick the operating system, with the software being a lot more clunky as a result. That said, incredibly it offers some advantages over the real iPhone, notably an excellent interface for using 'QQ' and 'MMS' email. Prices range from RMB500 to 700.
