Nanjing Lukou Airport 南京禄口机场
In 2008, Nanjing Lukou International Airport handled 81,700 flights, over 8 million passengers, and freight volume of over 180,000 tons. It ranked 14th in China by passenger numbers and 10th in terms of freight volume, making it amongst the busiest airports in China. Lukou airport is currently overloaded with busy flight schedules and its expansion plan is being reviewed.
The expansion and re-construction plan for Nanjing Lukou Airport aims to to transform it into one of the most important airports in the east Asia region by 2020, with an annual capacity of 30 million passengers and a freight capacity of 800,000 tons over 25,200 scheduled flights. The expansion and re-construction project will include a new runway, which allows for the landing of the A380, a new airport terminal building of 200,000 square meters and 34 boarding gates, telecommunication and other supporting facilities and a passenger hotel. The runway and new terminal building work will be completed by the year 2013. This strategic work will make Lukou Airport and the greater Nanjing region a more accessible and convenient travel and business destination in China and for all of Asia.
